Golden Triangle in 5 Days: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur Itinerary
A 5-day Golden Triangle itinerary for Delhi, Agra and Jaipur: day-by-day plan, drive times, where to sleep and what to skip on a short trip.

The Golden Triangle is the classic first trip to India, and five days is the standard length. It is enough to see the main sights of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur without turning the trip into a race.
This plan puts the long drives on days when you have little else to do, and leaves room for one proper evening in each city.

Day | Base | Highlights | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Delhi | Arrive, India Gate, evening in Connaught Place | From the airport |
2 | Delhi to Agra | Morning in Old and New Delhi, afternoon drive to Agra, sunset at Mehtab Bagh | About 3.5 to 4 hours |
3 | Agra to Jaipur | Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort, drive via Fatehpur Sikri | About 4.5 to 5.5 hours |
4 | Jaipur | Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, bazaars | Local |
5 | Jaipur to Delhi | Morning at leisure, drive back for your flight | About 5 to 6 hours |
Day 1: Delhi
Land, rest, and use the evening for a gentle introduction. See the India Gate guide and, for a dinner and a stroll, the Connaught Place guide.
Day 2: Delhi to Agra
See one or two sights in the morning. Humayun's Tomb and the Red Fort are the most useful. See the Humayun's Tomb guide and the Red Fort guide. Then drive to Agra. See the Delhi to Agra guide.
Day 3: Agra to Jaipur
Visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, and follow it with the Agra Fort. See our Taj Mahal guide and the sunrise or sunset guide. Then drive to Jaipur, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri. See the Agra to Jaipur guide.
Day 4: Jaipur
Visit Amber Fort first, then the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal. See our Amber Fort guide and the Hawa Mahal guide. Spend the late afternoon in the bazaars. See the markets guide.

Amber Fort, near Jaipur.
Day 5: back to Delhi
The drive back takes five to six hours, so leave by 9 am if you have an evening flight. Book your flight for after 7 pm to avoid a rush. See the Delhi to Jaipur guide.
What a 5-day plan leaves out
Ranthambore, Pushkar and Udaipur: better in a longer trip. See the Rajasthan extension guide.
Mathura and Vrindavan: a good one-day add-on.
Fatehpur Sikri in depth: the plan only passes through.
Is five days too short?
It is tight but workable. If you can add two days, a night at Fatehpur Sikri or Abhaneri and a slower Delhi make the trip far more comfortable. See the how many days guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is 5 days enough for the Golden Triangle?

What is the best order?
Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, then back to Delhi.
When is the best time?
October to March.
Should I go by car or train?

Can I add Udaipur?
Yes, with more days. See the extension guide.
