Delhi to Jaipur is the most travelled leg of the Golden Triangle. It is also the simplest, with a good road and frequent trains. The question is not whether you can do it, but which way suits your trip.

This guide gives the distance and the time for each mode, and when each is the right choice.

By road

The road is a modern, divided highway, and the drive takes five to six hours with a break. The morning is the best time to leave, since the traffic on the Delhi side clears by mid-morning.

A private car gives you a few useful stops on the way. Our Agra to Jaipur guide covers the Abhaneri and Fatehpur Sikri side, and the same logic applies on this route.

By train

Several trains run each day, including the faster Shatabdi and Vande Bharat style services. The journey takes about 4.5 to 5.5 hours, and it leaves from Delhi's main stations and arrives in the city centre. Book in advance, as seats on the best trains fill early.

By bus and flight

Buses run all day, but they take longer and are less comfortable. A flight takes about an hour in the air, and the total time with the airport transfers is rarely less than the train.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose a car if you are a group, want stops, or are linking this leg with Agra or Abhaneri.

  • Choose the train if you want a comfortable, fast and predictable run, and you will use a car in Jaipur.

  • Choose the flight only for connections.

Planning the day

If you drive, leave Delhi by 8 am, and expect to reach Jaipur in the early afternoon. You can add a break at a roadside stop and still arrive in time for an evening at the old city. See our Hawa Mahal guide for a first-evening stop.
