Golden Triangle with a Rajasthan Extension: An 8 to 10 Day Route
Golden Triangle with Rajasthan: an 8 to 10 day route adding Udaipur, Jodhpur or Pushkar to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, with drive times and how to choose.

The Golden Triangle covers Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, and Jaipur is already in Rajasthan, so extending the trip west is the natural next step. Adding Udaipur, Jodhpur or Pushkar turns a quick introduction into a proper journey.
This guide explains the options and how to choose the extension that suits you.

Mehrangarh Fort above Jodhpur.
Extension | Added days | What it adds | Drive from Jaipur |
|---|---|---|---|
Pushkar | 1 | A sacred lake and a quiet night | About 3 to 3.5 hours |
Jodhpur | 2 | A great fort and the Blue City | About 5.5 to 6 hours |
Udaipur | 3 | Lakes and palaces | About 6 to 7 hours |
Jodhpur and Udaipur | 5 | Both, with Ranakpur between | Long drives, with stops |
The base: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur
The Golden Triangle takes five days at a comfortable pace. See our 5-day itinerary. Extensions start from Jaipur.
Option 1: add Pushkar
A short extension that suits people who want a quieter stop. See the Jaipur to Pushkar guide and the Pushkar guide. Then return to Delhi by road or train.
Option 2: add Jodhpur
Jodhpur adds a major fort and the Blue City. See the Mehrangarh Fort guide. A night here gives you time for the fort and a sunset on the old city. From Jodhpur you can fly or take a train back to Delhi.
Option 3: add Udaipur
Udaipur is the most popular extension. It adds lakes, palaces and slow evenings. See the Udaipur in three days guide and the City Palace guide. Many travellers fly back to Delhi from Udaipur, which saves a long day on the road.
Option 4: the full Rajasthan loop
A ten-day plan can combine Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur with a stop at Ranakpur between them. See the Ranakpur guide and the Rajasthan city order guide.
A 10-day sample route
Days 1 to 2: Delhi.
Day 3: Agra.
Days 4 to 5: Jaipur.
Day 6: drive to Jodhpur via Pushkar.
Day 7: Jodhpur.
Day 8: drive to Udaipur via Ranakpur.
Days 9 to 10: Udaipur, then fly to Delhi.
How to choose
Short on time: add Pushkar.
Love forts: add Jodhpur.
Want romance and slow evenings: add Udaipur.
Want the full picture: the loop, over ten days.
Getting around
Private cars with a driver suit this route best, because the distances are long and the stops are not on train lines. Domestic flights from Udaipur or Jodhpur to Delhi can shorten the end of the trip. See our travel guide on getting around India.
Best season
October to March. Rajasthan's heat from April to June is severe.
