India tour photos, straight from the road

These are real photographs from recent private journeys through northern India — the marigold welcome at Delhi and Jaipur airports, the chauffeured fleet that carries each group between cities, and the forts, palaces and havelis those roads lead to.

No stock and no staging: our guests, our guides, and the places as they were on the day. It is the plainest picture we can give you of what a Lux India Tours trip actually looks like.

The Welcome

Every journey begins the same way. A name board held up in the arrivals hall. A rope of marigold and rose over the shoulders. Luggage lifted before it is asked for. These are the first minutes on Indian soil, mostly at Delhi and Jaipur airports, with the guide and chauffeur who stay with the group for the rest of the road.

On the Road

Between the sights is the car, and it matters. The fleet runs to private Toyota sedans and SUVs for couples, and air-conditioned Force Urbania and tempo traveller coaches for families and small groups. Each one is kept clean, garlanded on the first morning, and driven by a chauffeur who knows the routes between Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and beyond.

Forts, Palaces and Havelis

This is what the road is for. The ceremonial elephant climb to Amber Fort. The courtyards of Agra. The lake palace and the pink facade of Jaipur. A Mughal monument in Old Delhi at last light. Some frames are our guests; others are simply the places, shot on the same journeys.

In Good Company

The part that does not photograph as easily. The itinerary talked through over a map. The check-in handled while guests sit down. The evening the guide joins the table. Small groups, private arrangements, and the same faces from the airport to the departure gate.
