Three days is the shortest sensible time for the Golden Triangle. It works, but only if you accept a quick pace, long drives and a short list of sights.

This guide shows a realistic 3-day route and what to leave out.

Drive times are guides. Roads and traffic vary.

Day 1: Delhi to Agra

Leave Delhi early, ideally by 6 am. See our Delhi to Agra guide. Visit Agra Fort, then see the Taj Mahal in the late afternoon. Check the closing day first, because the Taj is closed on Fridays.

Day 2: Agra to Jaipur

Visit the Taj at sunrise, have breakfast and leave for Jaipur by mid-morning. You can stop at Fatehpur Sikri or Abhaneri on the way, but on a 3-day trip it is better to pick only one, or none. See the Agra to Jaipur guide.

Day 3: Jaipur and back to Delhi

See Amber Fort in the morning, then the City Palace or Hawa Mahal, and leave for Delhi in the afternoon. See the Amber Fort guide and the Hawa Mahal guide.

What to skip

Delhi is mostly left out, apart from the airport and the road. Many travellers add a day at the start to see Old Delhi. If you can, choose the 5-day itinerary.

Is 3 days enough?

It is enough for the Taj, a fort and one palace. It is not enough for a relaxed pace. See our how many days guide before you decide.

Practical tips

  1. Use a private car and driver. It saves time on transfers.

  2. Start early each day.

  3. Avoid Fridays for the Taj.

  4. Book tickets online where possible.

  5. Keep an evening buffer for traffic.
