The Taj Mahal reflected in calm water, Agra

Golden Triangle family trip cost for 4 is mostly decided by three choices: the vehicle, the rooms and the hotels. Monument fees look large on a list but are small in the total, and children under 15 are listed as free at most of them. This guide breaks a five-day Delhi, Agra and Jaipur trip for two adults and two children into its real lines, so you can read any quote and know what is in it.

We do not publish package prices in the Journal. What we can give you is the structure, the entry fees we have checked, and the questions that expose a thin quote. For routes and day plans, see our Golden Triangle family itinerary and the Golden Triangle with kids guide. This post is about the money.

Golden Triangle family trip cost: the lines in one view

Cost line

What changes it

Why it matters for four

Vehicle and driver

Car size, days, distance

Four people plus luggage need a larger car

Rooms

Two rooms, or one family room with an extra bed

The biggest single decision

Hotels

Category and season

Sets the baseline for everything

Monument fees

Citizenship, age, ticket type

Small for children, who are often free

Guides

Per day, per city

Optional, but useful in Agra

Meals

Hotel dining or local restaurants

Children eat less, so share plates

Extras

Rickshaws, cooking class, tonga rides

Small, but they add up

The first three lines usually make up most of the total. The rest is detail.

Vehicle cost for a family of 4 on the Golden Triangle

The classic loop covers roughly 750 km: Delhi to Agra, Agra to Jaipur, and Jaipur back to Delhi. Drive times are long. Expect around four hours from Delhi to Agra on the expressway, about five hours from Agra to Jaipur with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri, and about five to six hours back to Delhi. Confirm times for your dates.

Choose the right vehicle

A sedan fits four adults but not four people with two suitcases, a stroller and day bags. An SUV or MPV is the practical choice. It costs more per day, but split four ways the difference is small. Ask the operator for the exact vehicle model, not just the category.

What to ask

  1. Is the driver's food and stay included?

  2. Are tolls and parking included?

  3. Is the vehicle available for sightseeing within each city?

  4. What is the daily distance limit?

Rooms: the biggest decision for a family of four

Indian hotels handle four guests in one of three ways. Pick the one that suits your children's ages and your budget.

Option

Works best for

Watch out for

Two rooms

Teenagers, or families who want privacy

Doubles the room line

One family room

Young children

Fewer hotels offer them

One room with extra beds

Children under 12

Check space and bed size

Ask for the rate per room, not per person, and confirm whether children count towards occupancy. A hotel that says "child free" may still charge for an extra bed or breakfast. Our Golden Triangle hotel guide compares stays city by city.

Season moves the rate

October to March is the high season, with December and January peaking. April to June is hot and cheaper. The monsoon is cheaper still. Compare quotes for the same dates only.

Monument fees for a Golden Triangle family trip

This is where a family trip is kinder than it looks. Children under 15 are listed as free at the monuments below. Figures were checked in October 2026 against our own visitor guides and the official Taj Mahal site. Fees change, so confirm at the ticket window.

The Jaipur composite covers Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Nahargarh, so it is better value than separate tickets if you visit three or more.

A worked total for two adults and two children

For two Indian adults and two children under 15, using the upper ends of the ranges: the Taj grounds and mausoleum come to ₹500, Agra Fort ₹100, Red Fort ₹100, Humayun's Tomb ₹100, Qutub Minar ₹100, and the Jaipur composite ₹600 to ₹800. The total is about ₹1,500 to ₹1,700 for the whole family.

For two foreign adults and two children, the same route comes to about ₹9,500: Taj ₹2,600, Agra Fort ₹1,300, Red Fort ₹1,200, Humayun's Tomb ₹1,200, Qutub Minar ₹1,200 and the composite ₹2,000. Check child fares for foreign visitors at each ticket window.

Guides, meals and small extras

Guides

A guide is optional but useful in Agra, where the Taj and the Fort reward explanation. Ask whether the guide is licensed and whether the fee is per day or per site. Children often engage better with a guide who tells stories.

Meals

Children eat smaller portions, so share dishes. Hotel restaurants cost more than local places, but they are predictable. Our Agra food guide lists simple places to eat near the sights.

Extras

Rickshaw rides, a cooking class or a puppet show are small costs that children remember. Keep a small cash float for them.

Why Golden Triangle quotes differ so much

Two quotes for the same trip can look far apart. Check these points.

  • Hotel category. A heritage palace and a business hotel are different products.

  • Rooms. One room with extra beds versus two rooms.

  • Vehicle. Sedan versus SUV, and driver costs.

  • Inclusions. Entry fees, guides and meals.

  • Dates. Compare the same dates.

Our advice

Fix the room plan first, then the vehicle, then the hotels. Do not try to save on the car. Long drives with children are easier in a larger, quieter vehicle. Spend where it saves effort: a hotel close to the Taj, a driver who knows the roads, and a guide in Agra. Save on meals by sharing dishes and on entry fees by using the composite ticket in Jaipur. Plan for five days if you can, so the drives do not dominate. Our five-day Golden Triangle itinerary shows how the days fit.
