A Rajasthan honeymoon itinerary 8 days long can start with the best part. Fly into Udaipur, spend three nights by the lake while you are fresh, then work north through Jodhpur to finish in Jaipur. This is the reverse of the usual order, and it suits couples who want the softest city first and a flight home from Jaipur at the end.

Our 7-day Rajasthan honeymoon runs the other way, from Jaipur to Udaipur. This version adds a night, starts on the water and ends in the Pink City. For more ideas by the lake, read our Udaipur honeymoon guide.

Days 1 to 3: Udaipur

Day 1: arrival and the lake

Arrive and rest. Jagat Niwas Palace is a 17th-century haveli on the Lal Ghat waterfront of Lake Pichola. Lake-facing rooms look towards the Taj Lake Palace, the City Palace and the Aravalli hills. The rooftop restaurant is busy at sunset, so book a table. Keep the evening light.

Day 2: City Palace and a boat at dusk

Visit the City Palace Museum in the morning. Tickets cost roughly ₹300 to ₹400 for Indian visitors and ₹600 to ₹700 for foreign visitors, and sources differ, so confirm at the counter. The museum is open about 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Spend the afternoon resting. Take a boat on Lake Pichola at dusk, when the palace turns gold.

Day 3: a slow day

Leave this day unplanned. Walk the ghats, browse a craft shop, or take a long lunch. If you want an outing, Bagore ki Haveli sits beside the lake. Dinner can be on a terrace overlooking the water.

Days 4 and 5: Jodhpur

Day 4: Udaipur to Jodhpur

Leave after a late breakfast. If you want a stop, Ranakpur is a quiet temple valley on the way, but it adds time. Arrive in the afternoon. RAAS Jodhpur sits in the old walled city beneath Mehrangarh. Its rooftop terrace overlooks the Blue City and the fort, and the pool terrace at night looks up at the floodlit walls. The Heritage Suite has a fireplace, a soaking tub and a separate sitting area.

Day 5: Mehrangarh and the old city

Visit Mehrangarh in the morning, when it is cooler. Entry is about ₹100 for Indian visitors and ₹600 for foreign visitors. An audio guide costs ₹250 or ₹400. The fort is open roughly 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with last entry earlier, so confirm on the day. If you like adventure, the Flying Fox zip line costs about ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 per person and has a minimum age of 10. Spend the afternoon at the hotel. Dinner on the roof, under the fort, is the day's best hour.

Days 6 and 7: Jaipur

Day 6: Jodhpur to Jaipur

This is the longest drive. Set off early. You arrive by mid-afternoon. Alsisar Haveli, built in 1892 and still owned by the same family, has courtyards, painted arches and a garden pool. Rambagh Palace offers 47 acres of garden and a more formal style. Choose by mood.

Day 7: Amber Fort and a farewell dinner

See Amber Fort early. Entry is ₹100 for Indian visitors and ₹500 for foreign visitors, and a composite ticket covers several sites. See our Amber Fort guide. Keep the afternoon free. Book a long final dinner.

Day 8: departure

Fly out of Jaipur. Allow time for the transfer.

How this route differs from the standard order

Standard order

This order

Fly into Delhi or Jaipur

Fly into Udaipur

Start busy, finish soft

Start soft, finish busy

Long first drive

Short first day

End in Udaipur

End in Jaipur

If you arrive from Delhi, ask whether a flight to Udaipur is practical. If not, use our standard order. Read Jaipur, Jodhpur or Udaipur first to decide.

What is not romantic

Be honest about the day you will like least. The Jodhpur to Jaipur drive is long and the highway is busy. Jodhpur is dry and hot outside winter. Udaipur is calmest on weekdays and busy at weekends and holidays. And palace hotels are often steep in price. Plan the budget ahead. Our Rajasthan tour cost guide explains what moves the price.

When to go

October to March is the comfortable window, with November to February the safest. December and January are busy and expensive. March is lovely but near Holi, when travel can be slower, so check the dates. April to September is hot or wet. Our best time guide goes month by month.

Our advice

Keep three bases. Do not add Jaisalmer to an eight-day trip. Ask for a lake-facing room in Udaipur and a fort-view room in Jodhpur. Tell every hotel that it is a honeymoon, and ask what they can arrange, without assuming. Book the palace stay early. We plan Rajasthan honeymoons around the drives and the light, not the brochure.

Frequently asked questions

Is 8 days enough for a Rajasthan honeymoon?

Yes, for three cities. Eight days gives three nights in Udaipur and two each in Jodhpur and Jaipur, with a final morning. It is relaxed, not rushed.

Which city should a Rajasthan honeymoon start with?

Udaipur, if you can fly in. It is the softest city and eases you into the trip.

How many nights in each city?

Three in Udaipur, two in Jodhpur and two in Jaipur works well. Move a night if you prefer.

What is the best month for a Rajasthan honeymoon?

November to February is the safest. March is lovely but near Holi. Summer is hot.

Can we add Pushkar or Jaisalmer?

Pushkar is possible with more time. Jaisalmer adds a long drive and needs ten days or more.

Which hotels are best for couples?

Jagat Niwas for lake views, RAAS for fort views and Alsisar Haveli for a quiet family-run feel. Rambagh Palace and Taj Lake Palace suit a grander stay.
