Amber Fort at golden hour, Rajasthan

Rajasthan family trip cost for 4 is driven by distance, not by sightseeing. The three big cities, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, are hours apart by road, so the car and the hotels set the budget. Fort and palace fees are modest, and most children pay little or nothing. This guide breaks a seven-day trip for two adults and two children into its real lines so you can read any quote with confidence.

We do not publish package prices in the Journal. What we can offer is the structure, the entry fees we have checked, and the questions to ask. For routes and day plans, see our Rajasthan family itinerary and the Rajasthan with kids guide. This post is about the money.

Vehicle cost for a family of 4 in Rajasthan

A classic route runs Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and back, or ends in Udaipur with a flight home. The road legs are long. Jaipur to Jodhpur is roughly 335 km, or about six hours. Jodhpur to Udaipur is roughly 250 km, or about five hours. Confirm the times for your dates, as roadworks and traffic vary.

Choose the right vehicle

Four people with luggage need an SUV or MPV. A sedan is tight and tiring on a six-hour drive. The larger vehicle costs more per day, but divided between four it adds little per head. Ask for the exact model.

One-way or round trip?

If you fly out of Udaipur, ask whether the quote includes the driver's return journey. Some operators charge for it. Others build it into the rate. Compare like with like. Our guide to the best city order for Rajasthan explains how to avoid backtracking.

What to ask about the car

  1. Is the driver's food and stay included?

  2. Are tolls, parking and state entry taxes included?

  3. What is the daily distance limit?

  4. Is the vehicle air-conditioned throughout?

Rooms: the biggest decision for a family of four

Rajasthan hotels range from havelis with a few rooms to large palace properties. The right layout depends on your children's ages.

Two rooms

Teenagers, or families who want privacy

Doubles the room line

One family suite

Young children

Fewer hotels offer them

One room with extra beds

Children under 12

Heritage rooms may be small

Ask for the rate per room and confirm whether children count towards occupancy. Heritage hotels are charming but often have steps, narrow stairs and no lifts. Our palace hotel guide explains what to expect and what to ask.

Season moves the rate

October to March is the high season, with December and January the peak. April to June is hot and cheaper. The monsoon is greener and cheaper still. Compare quotes for the same dates. Our month-by-month guide shows what each month is like.

The Jaipur composite covers Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Nahargarh. It pays for itself if you visit three or more. Children's rules differ by site and age, so ask at the counter. Our Amber Fort guide and Mehrangarh guide cover each in more detail.

A worked total for two adults and two children

For two Indian adults, using the composite ticket in Jaipur: ₹600 to ₹800 for Jaipur, about ₹200 for Mehrangarh and about ₹600 to ₹800 for the City Palace in Udaipur. That is roughly ₹1,400 to ₹1,800 for the adults. Add small amounts for children where they pay. For two foreign adults, the same route comes to roughly ₹4,400 to ₹4,600: ₹2,000 for the composite, ₹1,200 for Mehrangarh and ₹1,200 to ₹1,400 for the City Palace.

Camera fees are extra at some sites, and audio guides cost more. Children's tickets are a small line.

Optional extras that change a family budget

Ranthambore tiger safari

Ranthambore is a popular add-on. The forest department raised safari fees from April 2026. One report lists a canter at about ₹987 per person for Indian visitors and about ₹2,400 for foreign visitors, and a gypsy at about ₹1,612 and about ₹3,025. The vehicle, guide and booking charges can differ, so ask your operator what is included. Safari bookings open well ahead, and tickets are limited.

Mehrangarh zip line

The Flying Fox at Mehrangarh costs about ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 per person and has a minimum age of 10. It suits teenagers and older children.

Camel, jeep and elephant rides

Many families ask for rides. Jeeps at Amber cost a small fee, and we recommend against elephant rides because of welfare concerns. Ask about camel rides at a desert camp only if your children are old enough to enjoy them.

Meals and small costs

Children eat smaller portions, so share dishes. Hotel dining costs more than local restaurants but is predictable. Our Rajasthani food guide lists dishes children usually enjoy. Keep a small cash float for rickshaws, puppet shows and craft stalls.

Why Rajasthan quotes differ so much

Two quotes for the same route can look far apart. Check these points.

  • Hotel type. A palace, a haveli and a business hotel are different products.

  • Rooms. One room with extra beds versus two rooms.

  • Vehicle. Sedan versus SUV, and whether the return journey is charged.

  • Inclusions. Entry fees, guides, safari and meals.

  • Dates. Compare the same dates.

Our advice

Fix the room plan first, then the vehicle, then the hotels. Do not try to save on the car, because Rajasthan is a long-drive destination. Choose two or three bases, not five. Seven days with three stops is far better than seven days with five. Use the Jaipur composite ticket and skip separate Amber tickets. Add Ranthambore only if your children are old enough to sit quietly for a morning. We plan Rajasthan around the drives, not the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Rajasthan family trip cost for 4?

There is no single figure. The total depends on the vehicle, the rooms and the hotels. Fort fees are small and children often pay less. Use the lines above to read any quote.

How much do fort tickets cost for a family of four?

For two Indian adults, roughly ₹1,400 to ₹1,800 for Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur combined, plus small child fares where they apply. For two foreign adults it is roughly ₹4,400 to ₹4,600. Confirm at each ticket window.

Do children pay at Rajasthan forts?

It varies. Mehrangarh lists free entry below age 5. The Jaipur composite lists free entry under about age 7. Carry proof of age.

Which car is best for a family of four in Rajasthan?

An SUV or MPV. A sedan is tight with luggage on long drives. Ask for the vehicle model.

How many days do we need for Rajasthan with kids?

Seven days with three bases works well. Ten days is more relaxed. See our 10-day Rajasthan itinerary.

Is a Ranthambore safari worth adding?

For children aged about eight and above, yes. Tigers are never guaranteed. Book early, as tickets are limited.
