Udaipur Honeymoon: Romantic Things to Do, from Lake Dinners to Boat Rides
Udaipur honeymoon guide: romantic things to do, a lake boat at sunset, rooftop and palace dinners, where to stay by the water and how many nights to plan.

Udaipur is the most romantic city in Rajasthan, and it earns the label honestly. The lakes, the palace walls and the hills make an evening there feel like a set, and the pace is slow enough that you can enjoy it.
This guide covers the experiences that suit a honeymoon, how to time them and where to base yourselves.

The Lake Palace on Lake Pichola.
Experience | Best time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Lake Pichola boat ride | The hour before sunset | Book a private boat for quiet |
Rooftop dinner with a palace view | After dark | Reserve a table facing the City Palace |
Palace or heritage hotel dinner | Evening | Dress smartly |
City Palace in the morning | Early | Beat the tour groups |
Sunset at the Monsoon Palace | Late afternoon | A wide view over the lakes |
Gangaur Ghat walk | Early evening | Lamps, flower sellers and boats |
A boat on Lake Pichola
The boat ride is the one experience to book. A shared boat is cheaper and runs on a fixed route. A private boat costs more and lets you stop where you like, ideal for a quiet half hour as the light goes. See our Lake Pichola guide for timings and what the standard ride covers.
Dinner with a view
Udaipur's rooftop restaurants face the City Palace across the water. Reserve a table in advance in winter and ask for one on the lake side. For a grander evening, many heritage hotels serve dinner on a terrace or by the water, with live music on some nights. Policies for non-guests vary, so book ahead.
The City Palace and the old city
Visit the City Palace early, when the courtyards are quiet. The museum rooms, the mirror work and the peacock courtyard are worth the time. See our City Palace guide for tickets and timings.
Spend the rest of the morning in the lanes around the palace, where small shops sell miniature paintings, silver and textiles.

The City Palace above the lake.
Sunset and sunrise
Sunset: the Monsoon Palace has the widest view. See the Monsoon Palace guide.
Sunrise: a quiet walk to a hill viewpoint, such as Bahubali Hills, suits early risers.
A show: the evening dance at Bagore ki Haveli. See the Bagore guide.
Where to stay
Pick a hotel on the lake or within walking distance of the ghats. The old city side gives you views of the palace and the water, and the evening lights. A lake-facing room costs more but changes the whole stay. Our palace hotel guide explains how to choose.
How many nights
Three nights is ideal, and it matches the pace of our Udaipur in three days guide. Two nights works if you are combining it with Jaipur or Jodhpur. See the Rajasthan city order guide.
Best season
October to March, with clear skies and cool evenings. February and March are lovely. The monsoon fills the lakes and turns the hills green, which is beautiful but wet.
