The best Rajasthan honeymoon itinerary is seven days, three cities and no more than two hotel changes. Jaipur gives you the colour, Jodhpur the fort and the blue lanes, and Udaipur the lake. Between them you have enough variety to stay interested and enough time to stop moving.

This guide sets out that route day by day. It also covers the drive times, which months suit newlyweds, and where a honeymoon version differs from a standard sightseeing trip. If you have ten days, our Rajasthan in 10 days route adds Jaisalmer.

The route at a glance

Days

Where

What it is for

1 to 2

Jaipur

Arrive, palace check-in, Amber at a quiet hour, a private dinner

3 to 4

Jodhpur

Mehrangarh, the blue old city, a slow heritage-hotel evening

5 to 7

Udaipur

Lake Pichola, a boat at dusk, long unplanned hours

Drive times are the only real cost. Jaipur to Jodhpur is about 334 km, roughly five and a half hours by road. Jodhpur to Udaipur is about four to five hours, longer if you stop at Ranakpur. Both are comfortable in a private car with a driver who lets you set the pace.

Days 1 and 2: Jaipur

Arrive, check in and do nothing. That is the first rule of a honeymoon itinerary. Most flights land mid-morning or late at night, and a sightseeing programme on day one wastes both of you.

On day two, see Amber Fort early. Go before the tour groups, ideally at opening time, when the courtyards are quiet and the light is soft on the sandstone. Spend the afternoon in the old city or at your hotel. Book dinner somewhere private. A courtyard or terrace table beats a restaurant with a view of other tables.

Jaipur suits a palace stay. A property such as Rambagh Palace is the classic choice for a first night in Rajasthan. For a smaller, quieter option, look at Alsisar Haveli.

The honest drawback: Jaipur is busy. The traffic and the bazaars are lively, and not everyone wants that on a honeymoon. Two nights is enough.

Days 3 and 4: Jodhpur

Leave Jaipur after a late breakfast. You will reach Jodhpur by mid-afternoon, which leaves the evening free.

Visit Mehrangarh on day four. Take the audio guide and go slowly. The fort opens at 9:00 am and ticket sales close at 5:00 pm, but fees change, so confirm them on the official site before you travel. Walk down through the old city afterwards for lunch in the lanes.

Jodhpur is the best city for a heritage hotel. Ajit Bhawan and RAAS Jodhpur both give you a calm base after the fort. Plan a long dinner and an early night.

Days 5 to 7: Udaipur

Travel to Udaipur on day five. If you want a stop, Ranakpur and its Jain temples sit roughly on the way. It adds time, so only include it if you like to break up a drive.

Udaipur is where the trip turns romantic. Take a boat on Lake Pichola in the late afternoon, then dine by the water. Visit the City Palace on one morning and keep the other two days empty. Read our Udaipur honeymoon guide for lake dinners and boat rides in detail.

For the stay, a lake-view palace hotel is worth the spend. Taj Lake Palace sits on an island in the lake, and Jagat Niwas Palace is a smaller haveli option on the shore.

When to go

October to March is the strongest window for a Rajasthan honeymoon. November to February is the safest for weather: warm days and cool nights.

Month

What to expect

October

Warm days, fewer crowds, start of the wedding season

November to February

Best weather. Pack a layer for evenings

March

Warmer. Avoid Holi dates for easier travel

April to September

Hot, then monsoon. Quieter and cheaper, but harder going

Peak months mean higher prices and fuller hotels, so book palace stays early. Our best time to visit Rajasthan guide has the month-by-month detail.

How a honeymoon trip differs

Three small changes make the same route feel different.

  • Fewer sights per day. One main visit, one free block.

  • A late start. Skip the 7:00 am departures unless the light justifies it.

  • Private transfers. A car and driver for the whole trip, not shared transport.

Tell your hotel it is your honeymoon when you book. Many properties add a small gesture, but do not expect it as a right. For more on stays, read our guide to Rajasthan's palace hotels.

Our advice

Choose three cities, not five. Put the longest stay in Udaipur, because it is the place you will want more of. Book palace nights early, and keep the days between loose. If you want to add a desert night, Jaisalmer fits best as a ten-day trip rather than a squeezed seven.
