The Taj Mahal in Agra under a warm golden-hour sky

Taj Mahal ticket price 2026-27 depends on who you are and what you want to see. The grounds cost ₹50 for an Indian citizen, ₹540 for a SAARC or BIMSTEC visitor and ₹1,100 for a foreign visitor. Going inside the main mausoleum costs ₹200 more. Children under 15 enter free.

These figures come from the official Taj Mahal site and were checked in October 2026. Fees and rules change, so confirm at the ticket window. This post covers the money only. For gates, rules and what to see, read our Taj Mahal visitor guide. To choose a time of day, see Taj Mahal at sunrise or sunset.

Taj Mahal ticket price for Indian visitors

An Indian citizen or OCI cardholder pays ₹50 for the grounds. The mausoleum adds ₹200, so the full visit costs ₹250. Carry a valid photo ID, and an OCI card if you hold one.

Online booking carries a small discount of about ₹5 per ticket, according to the official page. It is a small saving, but it also lets you skip the ticket queue, which can be long at opening.

Taj Mahal ticket price for foreign tourists

A foreign visitor pays ₹1,100 for the grounds and ₹200 for the mausoleum, so ₹1,300 in all. Some third-party sites quote ₹1,050 for foreign tickets. That figure may be the price after the online discount of about ₹50, but the safe course is to use the official booking page and check the total before you pay.

Avoid unofficial resellers

Search results are full of agents selling tickets at a markup. The official ticket is not complicated. If a site charges far more than the figures above, it is probably adding a fee for itself.

Taj Mahal ticket price for SAARC and BIMSTEC citizens

Citizens of SAARC and BIMSTEC countries pay ₹540 for the grounds, or ₹740 with the mausoleum. Carry a passport and be ready to show proof of citizenship.

Taj Mahal ticket price for children

Children under 15 enter free, including the mausoleum. Carry proof of age if a child looks older. For a family trip, this is a real saving. Our Agra with kids guide explains how to plan the day with young children.

What does your Taj Mahal ticket include?

A ticket covers entry to the complex, the garden, the mosque and the terrace. It does not include the mausoleum, which is a separate add-on. It does not include a guide, a camera fee elsewhere, or a transfer to the gate. Agra Fort is a different ticket and a different site, covered in our Agra Fort guide.

Is the mausoleum worth ₹200?

Yes, for most visitors. Inside is the cenotaph chamber with its marble screen and pietra dura inlay. It is small, quiet and dim, and it can be crowded. If you only want the exterior and the garden, you can skip it. If you have limited time, the queue for the mausoleum is the part that takes longest.

Taj Mahal night viewing ticket

Night viewing is a separate ticket, held on full-moon nights and a day or two either side, with small numbers. Sessions are in the evening and dates depend on the moon. The price and rules are set by the authorities and change, so ask your hotel to check, and book several days ahead. The Taj is closed to general visitors on Fridays, and night viewing is not held on Fridays.

How the Taj Mahal ticket compares with other Agra and Delhi sights

The Taj is the most expensive monument on a Golden Triangle route for foreign visitors, but not for Indian visitors. These figures come from our own visitor guides, checked in October 2026.

Foreign adult

Taj Mahal (grounds)

₹50

₹1,100

About ₹40 to ₹50

About ₹600 to ₹650

About ₹550 to ₹600

Qutub Minar, Delhi

About ₹550 to ₹600

For a foreign couple doing Agra Fort and the Taj together, entry fees come to roughly ₹3,800 to ₹3,900 with the mausoleum. For an Indian couple the same pair costs about ₹600. Our guide to the Golden Triangle family trip cost for 4 shows how these fees fit into a full budget.

How to buy Taj Mahal tickets

  1. Use the official booking page, not a reseller.

  2. Choose your visitor category carefully. The wrong category can cause a problem at the gate.

  3. Add the mausoleum if you want to go inside.

  4. Carry the same photo ID you used to book.

  5. Arrive before opening. The line forms early, and hours follow the sun.

The complex opens about 30 minutes before sunrise and closes about 30 minutes before sunset. Ticket counters open earlier. Check the day's times before you go.

Common mistakes with Taj Mahal tickets

  • Buying from a reseller. You pay more for the same ticket.

  • Forgetting ID. Gate staff may ask for it.

  • Visiting on a Friday. General viewing is closed.

  • Skipping the mausoleum add-on, then regretting it. You cannot always buy it inside.

  • Assuming the Agra Fort is covered. It is a separate ticket.

Our advice

Book online, carry your ID, and decide on the mausoleum before you reach the gate. If you are travelling as a family with children under 15, the ticket line costs you almost nothing, so spend your savings on a good guide. Pair the Taj with Agra Fort on the same day if your time is short. Our Agra one-day itinerary shows how.
