An Andaman couple trip 5 days long has room for two or three islands and no more. The islands are small, the ferries set the pace, and the best moments are slow ones. A late swim, a long dinner, a beach with nobody on it.

This plan is for two people who want a trip that feels unhurried. It is not a honeymoon package and it is not a list of every sight. It is a route, with the hours that matter and the things we would drop. It uses Port Blair, Havelock Island and Neil Island, and it keeps ferry days short.

If you want the longer honeymoon version, read our Andaman honeymoon planning guide. If you want a standard first-timer plan, see the Andaman 5 nights 6 days itinerary. This post sits between them. It is shaped for couples, and it is honest about what takes time.

Tight

Three bases in five days sounds like a lot. It is workable because each ferry is short. Port Blair to Havelock takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the operator. Havelock to Neil is about an hour.

Day 1: Port Blair, kept light

Most flights land before lunch. Check in, eat, and do very little until the afternoon. Port Blair is a working town. It is useful, not romantic, and one night is enough.

Visit the Cellular Jail in the late afternoon. It is a national memorial to the freedom struggle, and it deserves a quiet hour, not a rush. The museum is closed on Mondays. Opening hours differ between sources, so confirm them on the day. The light and sound show runs in the evening in Hindi and English. It is moving, but it is a heavy way to start a holiday, so skip it if you want a gentler first night.

Have dinner by the water and go to bed early. Your ferry is the next morning.

Day 2: the ferry to Havelock, and a slow afternoon

Book the earliest sensible sailing. Several operators run from Haddo Wharf in Port Blair, and morning departures are usually between about 6:00 am and 8:00 am. Schedules change by season and by weather, so we confirm them close to the date. Sea conditions can cancel a sailing, which is why this plan never puts a ferry on the day of an international flight.

Havelock is Swaraj Dweep on official maps. You will arrive by late morning. Check in, swim, and rest.

Radhanagar Beach at the end of the day

Go to Radhanagar in the last two hours of light. The sand is pale and wide, and the water is calm in the early season. It is the best sunset on the island. The mornings and the golden hour are the quiet hours. The middle of the day is when day visitors arrive.

Day 3: one good outing, then rest

This is the only full day on Havelock, so choose one big thing. Do not stack three.

  • Snorkelling or a boat day: Elephant Beach is the usual choice. Read the Elephant Beach guide for boat times and the forest trek.

  • A first scuba dive: Couples often do this together because the instructor works one to one in the shallows. Our first scuba dive guide explains what to expect and who should not dive.

  • A beach day and nothing else: This is a perfectly good choice. Do not feel you owe the island an activity.

Whatever you pick, finish by mid-afternoon. Spend the evening at your hotel. A good dinner and a walk on the sand are enough.

Day 4: Neil Island, the quieter one

Take a morning ferry from Havelock to Neil. It is short and the island is small, so you can see most of it in a day. Neil is flatter and calmer than Havelock. There are fewer resorts and fewer people.

The usual stops are Bharatpur Beach, Laxmanpur Beach for sunset, and the natural rock bridge, which depends on the tide. Check tide times locally, because the bridge is not always accessible. Rent bicycles if your hotel offers them. The roads are quiet and the distances are short.

If you would rather not change islands again, you can stay on Havelock for four nights and skip Neil. Many couples prefer that. We explain the trade in Havelock or Neil, which island.

Day 5: heading home, with margin

Take the morning ferry from Neil back to Port Blair. Arrival is around midday, depending on the operator. Book a flight that leaves in the evening, not the afternoon. If a ferry is delayed, you will be glad of the margin.

Ferry reliability and some activities

For a first romantic trip, we suggest the window between November and the end of February. Our Andaman honeymoon planning guide has a fuller month-by-month view.

Where to stay, in brief

On Havelock, pick a hotel for its beach access and its quiet, not for its pool. Taj Exotica Resort and Spa, Andamans is the island's best-known luxury stay and lists private beach access. Note that beaches in the Andamans are generally public, so "private" means access and calm, not ownership. Our private beach stay guide explains the difference.

In Port Blair, choose a hotel close to the jetty. You only need it for one night.

What is not romantic

Be honest with yourselves about these:

  • Port Blair traffic and the walk to the jetty

  • Early ferry starts, often before 7:00 am

  • Rain, which can close beaches and cancel sailings

  • Crowds at Radhanagar between late morning and mid-afternoon

  • Limited choice of restaurants on Neil

None of this ruins a trip. It is easier when you know it in advance.

Our advice

Do not try to add a fourth island. Five days is a short window, and the ferries use up more time than the maps suggest. Spend two nights on Havelock, one on Neil, and one in Port Blair on arrival. Choose one big activity and leave the rest empty. If your flights are tight, drop Neil and stay on Havelock for three nights.

We build these trips around ferry times and hotel check-in hours, so nothing on day four depends on luck. For a longer stay, a seven-day plan gives you a second Havelock day and removes the early start on the last morning.

Frequently asked questions

Is 5 days enough for an Andaman couple trip?

Yes, if you keep to two or three islands. Five days covers Port Blair, Havelock and Neil without rushing. It does not leave room for Baratang, Ross Island or deep-diving courses.

How many nights should we spend on Havelock?

Two nights is the minimum for a couple who want a quiet beach and one activity. Three nights is better if you plan to dive or simply want to rest.

Is Neil Island worth it for couples?

It suits couples who like quiet beaches and bicycles, and who do not need nightlife. It is less polished than Havelock. If your time is short, skipping Neil is a reasonable choice.

What is the best month for an Andaman couple trip?

November to February is the calmest and driest window, and therefore the most popular. March and April are also good for snorkelling. Avoid the monsoon months if your plans depend on ferries.

Can we book ferries ourselves?

You can, but the dates must match your hotel check-ins and your flights. Ferries sell out in peak season, so we book them as part of the plan.
