Scuba diving in Havelock cost depends on one choice more than any other: a single first dive or a full certification. A Discover Scuba Dive, the beginner's boat dive, is listed at about ₹4,500 to ₹6,500 per person on the operator pages we checked. A full Open Water course costs several times that. This guide gives both, the dive sites, the age and health rules, and the months to dive.

Figures were checked in October 2026 on operator and guide pages. Operators set their own prices and often change them, so confirm with the dive centre before you pay. If you are brand new to diving, our first scuba dive guide explains what the day feels like. This post covers the money and the rules.

Discover Scuba Dive in Havelock: cost and what you get

The Discover Scuba Dive is the usual first dive. A certified instructor stays beside you from the start. You do not need to be a strong swimmer. Depth is shallow, with a maximum of about 12 metres on the operator page we checked.

What the price usually includes

On the listing we saw, the price covered a PADI or SSI instructor, checked equipment, the boat, a dive certificate for the experience, snacks and drinks, first aid and towels. Another guide says photography is included. This varies by operator, so ask.

What can cost extra

  • Underwater photos or video, if not included

  • Transfers from your hotel

  • A longer or second dive

  • Hotel pick-up from the far side of the island

How long does it take?

Expect two to three hours in total. Sessions on the listing started at 6:00 am, 8:00 am and 10:00 am, with check-in about half an hour earlier. Time underwater is shorter, often 30 to 45 minutes.

Scuba course cost in Havelock

If you want to dive properly, a certification course is the next step.

Open Water Diver

The Open Water course takes about four days with four ocean dives. The guide we checked listed a prerequisite of a 200 metre swim and a 10 minute float, so unlike the Discover dive, you do need to swim. This course lets you dive independently with a buddy to a set depth anywhere in the world.

Advanced Open Water Diver

The Advanced course takes two to three days with five specialty dives. You need Open Water first. It opens deeper sites and different skills.

Is a course worth it on a holiday?

Only if diving is a main reason for your trip. A course takes four days, which is most of a short Andaman holiday. For most travellers a Discover Scuba Dive plus snorkelling is the better use of time. Our Andaman water sports guide compares the options.

Who can scuba dive in Havelock?

Age

Operators set their own minimum age. One listing says 12, with a maximum of 55. Our own guide says typically around ten. Confirm with the centre, especially for children.

Health

You fill in a health form before diving. Be completely honest. Conditions such as asthma or other respiratory illness, back problems, heart conditions and pregnancy may rule you out or need a doctor's approval. If in doubt, ask your doctor before you travel.

Swimming

For a Discover Scuba Dive you do not need to swim well, but you should be comfortable in water. A course requires a basic swim test.

Flying afterwards

Do not fly within about a day of diving. Plan your last dive well before a flight home. Our guide suggests leaving a full day.

Best time to dive in Havelock

October to April is the usual window, with December to April the peak. Seas are calmer and visibility is better. The monsoon, roughly May to September, brings rough weather, and some dive centres close. October is a transition month. Book ahead from December to March.

How to choose a dive centre

Cost matters, but safety matters more. Look for these points.

  1. Certified instructors from a recognised agency such as PADI or SSI.

  2. Small groups, ideally one instructor to a few divers.

  3. Well-kept equipment that is checked before each dive.

  4. A clear health form and a briefing before you enter the water.

  5. Honest answers about inclusions and extra costs.

Do not pick the cheapest centre only because of the price. Our Andaman budget guide explains where to save and what never to cut.

A simple budget for two divers

For a couple doing one Discover Scuba Dive each, at the ₹6,500 price on one listing, the cost is ₹13,000. At the lower end of the wider range, it is ₹9,000. Add snorkelling, transfers and photos if they are not included. Compare this with the full trip cost in our Andaman tour cost per person guide.

Where to stay for diving

Staying near a dive centre saves time. Barefoot at Havelock has an on-site dive centre, and SeaShell Havelock has a certified dive shop. See Barefoot at Havelock and SeaShell Havelock. For a trip built around diving, look at the Andaman Havelock Dive Retreat.

Our advice

Start with a Discover Scuba Dive. If you love it, add a second dive on another day. Keep the course for a future trip. Book the morning slot, when the sea is calmest. Compare written inclusions rather than headline prices. And do not dive if you are unwell or have had a cold. A missed dive is a small cost. A mistake underwater is not.
