A seven-day route through Rajasthan's three great palace cities, with no long desert drives. Two days in Jaipur cover City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort's mirrored Sheesh Mahal. The road then runs west to Jodhpur, where Mehrangarh rises 125 metres above the indigo rooftops of the old city. A drive south past Ranakpur's marble Jain temple brings you to Udaipur for two nights on Lake Pichola — City Palace, a boat to Jag Mandir, and a slow morning through the old city's silver and painting workshops before departure.

Jaipur

Arrival in Jaipur — City Palace & Hawa Mahal

Private airport pickup, then straight into Jaipur's old city. City Palace is still a home — part of it belongs to the royal family today. Its courtyards mix Rajput and Mughal design in a way few palaces manage. From there it's a short walk to Hawa Mahal. Built in 1799, its pink sandstone front holds 953 small windows. They let royal women watch the street below without being seen themselves. Evening is free for the hotel, or a walk through the old city's lanes before dinner.

Amber Fort & Jaipur's Old City Bazaars

A full day built around Amber Fort. The fort sits on a hill above Maota Lake, begun in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I. Inside, Sheesh Mahal glitters — thousands of small mirror tiles set into the walls and ceiling, still catching light after four centuries. A guide walks you through Ganesh Pol, the fort's most ornate gate, before the afternoon opens up. Back in the old city, Johari Bazaar sells jewellery the way it has for generations, and Bapu Bazaar deals in block-printed textiles. Both are better explored slowly, with someone who knows which shops to trust.

Jaipur → Jodhpur

Jaipur to Jodhpur — Direct Drive

A private road transfer west to Jodhpur, roughly six hours with stops built in for coffee and photos. The landscape shifts as you go — Jaipur's hills give way to flatter, drier country closer to the Thar Desert's edge. Arrival is timed for late afternoon, with the evening left free to settle in before the next day's fort visit.

Mehrangarh Fort & the Blue City

Mehrangarh rises 125 metres above Jodhpur. It sits on a sheer rock face, built in 1459 by Rao Jodha. Its ramparts are some of the thickest in Rajasthan. The museum inside holds royal palanquins, armour, and a gallery of miniature paintings. From the fort walls, Jodhpur's old city spreads out below in shades of blue. The colour started with Brahmin homes. It spread more widely later, partly for its heat-reflecting properties. The afternoon is free to walk those blue lanes at ground level, camera in hand.

Jodhpur → Udaipur

Jodhpur to Udaipur via Ranakpur

The drive south to Udaipur runs about 250 kilometres over five hours, with a long stop at Ranakpur. Its Jain temple was begun in the 15th century. It rests on 1,444 marble pillars, and no two are carved alike. The light shifts across them through the day. From Ranakpur it is a shorter run into Udaipur, arriving by early evening for a first look at Lake Pichola.

Udaipur

Udaipur — City Palace & Lake Pichola

A morning at City Palace, its marble courtyards facing the lake directly. It was built up over nearly four hundred years by successive Mewar rulers. Like most Rajasthan palaces, it mixes Rajput and Mughal styles. In the afternoon, a private boat crosses to Jag Mandir, an island palace once used as a refuge by a young Mughal prince. The best seat for sunset is on the water itself, watching City Palace catch the last light.

Udaipur

Udaipur Old City Walk & Departure

A slower final morning through Udaipur's old city lanes, away from the lakefront crowds. Silver ateliers and miniature-painting workshops line the narrow streets, many still run by the same families for generations. A stop at a working studio shows how the fine detail work is actually done — brush strokes finer than most visitors expect. The rest of the day is timed around your departure flight.
