What to expect

The hills rise at the edge of the city and the paths lead to open ridges with wide views over the valleys and, in the right light, the lakes. There are no ticket counters and few facilities, so bring water.

Most people come for the morning light. In the monsoon and just after, the hills turn green and the views are at their best. In the summer they are dry and hot.

How to reach it

The hills are a short drive from central Udaipur. A cab, an auto or a driver-guided car is the simplest way, and you should ask the driver to wait or arrange a return, as the area has few taxis at the start of a morning walk.

  • Car with a driver: the easiest, especially for a pre-dawn start.

  • Auto or cab: possible, though returning can be slow, so pre-book.

  • Distance: a drive of about 20 to 30 minutes from most hotels, depending on traffic and the exact access point.

Mapping apps list several entrances, so confirm the one you want with your driver.

Tips

  • Start before dawn for sunrise, with a torch or phone light.

  • Wear shoes with grip. The paths are uneven in places.

  • Carry water and a snack. There is little on the hill.

  • Go with company early in the morning, as it is quiet.

  • Respect the area. Take litter with you.

How it compares

For a first visit to Udaipur, the lakes and City Palace come first. See our Udaipur in three days guide and the City Palace visitor guide. Bahubali Hills and the other hill viewpoints are for a free, quiet morning, not a headline stop.
