Bagore ki Haveli is an 18th-century mansion on Gangaur Ghat, beside Lake Pichola, and it holds a museum by day and one of Udaipur's best-known dance shows in the evening. It is an easy, low-cost stop that fits well into a lake day.

This guide covers timings, tickets and how to plan the visit around the show.

What it is

The haveli was built by a prime minister of Mewar in the 18th century and later fell into disrepair before being restored. It has well over a hundred rooms, many of them with mirror work, painted walls and old textiles, and it now holds a museum of costumes, furniture and daily life of the period.

The courtyard and the rooftop give lake views, and the haveli is one of the few places in the old city where you can see the interiors of a noble house.

The museum

Go in the morning or the afternoon. You can walk through the rooms and courtyards in about an hour. It is not a large collection, but the building itself is the exhibit.

Camera and phone charges have varied over time, so ask at the counter.

The Dharohar show

In the evening a dance and music performance runs in the courtyard. It is a short, folk-style programme, with several dances including a puppet segment and the pot-balancing dance.

  • Timing: usually early evening, around 7 pm.

  • Seats: the front rows go first. Arrive 30 to 45 minutes early.

  • Tickets: buy at the counter or ahead through the venue. Prices change, so check on the day.

  • Cameras: a separate camera fee is typical.

The show is touristy but well done, and it is a good way to spend an hour after dinner or before it.
