Tso Moriri At A Glance

Tso Moriri lies deep in the Changthang, the high plateau in south-east Ladakh. It sits at 4,522 metres. The lake is about nineteen kilometres long and a deep, still blue. It is a protected wetland, a breeding ground for bar-headed geese and the black-necked crane. Kiang, the wild ass of the Tibetan plateau, graze the shore. The only settlement is Korzok, a small village with a monastery and a few camps. Changpa nomads bring their pashmina goats to these pastures in summer. It is harder to reach than Pangong and sees far fewer people. Most trips come in from Leh past the hot springs at Chumathang and stay one or two nights on the shore.

Tso Moriri Camp & Resort sits at Korzok, the one village on the shore of Tso Moriri, at about 4,500 metres. It is the most comfortable place to stay on the lake, which is a low bar in the Changthang, but a real one. There are around fifteen tents and five solid rooms. Each has a bed with warm bedding, an electric blanket, and an attached bathroom with a Western toilet and a hot shower. Meals are served in a central dining tent. Power runs on solar with a generator backup, and there is oxygen support for guests who need it. The camp only opens for the short season, roughly May to September, and this is the one property both our luxury and premium Ladakh trips use for the Tso Moriri night.
