The Andamans are not the cheapest trip in India, but you can control the cost. Flights, ferries and island stays make up most of it. The savings come from the season, the length and the choices you make.

This guide explains where the money goes and what to adjust. It gives no fixed prices, because rates change by season and operator.

How to manage it

Flights

Book early, and be flexible on dates

Stays

Mix mid-range and simple stays

Ferries

Book ahead, choose the right class

Activities

Pick two or three, not every one

Season

Travel in shoulder months

Choose the season

Peak season, roughly December to February, is the most expensive. Shoulder months can lower rates, though the weather is less reliable. See our season guide and the monsoon guide.

Pick the right length

Every extra night adds stays and food. A 5-night trip usually covers Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. See the 5-night itinerary and the how many days guide.

Ferries and transfers

Book ferries early, because they sell out. Compare the options and the classes. See the ferry guide.

Stays

You do not need luxury on every island. Use a nicer property for one or two nights and simpler stays for the rest. See the where to stay guide.

Where to spend and where to save

  • Spend on: a beach stay at Havelock, a good diving or snorkelling operator.

  • Save on: meals at local restaurants, self-guided beach time.

  • Free or cheap: sunrise and sunset at the beaches. See the Radhanagar guide.

What not to cut

Safety. Choose licensed dive operators and ferries with a good record. Cheap and unreliable is no saving if it costs you a day.

Practical tips

  1. Book early for flights and ferries.

  2. Carry cash, as ATMs can be limited on the islands.

  3. Check permits. See the permit guide.

  4. Eat local.

  5. Ask for a package that bundles ferries and transfers.
