Jhalana Leopard Safari Jaipur: Timings, Booking and Tips
Jhalana leopard safari in Jaipur: safari timings, how to book a gypsy or canter, what the odds are, best season and what to wear.

Jhalana is a small forest reserve inside Jaipur, and it is known for a healthy leopard population. It is one of the few places in India where you can look for leopards within a major city, and a safari fits easily into a morning or evening.
This guide covers timings, booking and the practical side of the visit.

What to expect
The reserve is a dry, hilly forest, and the leopards are most active in the cooler parts of the day. A guided jeep takes you along set tracks. Many safaris spot at least one leopard, but wildlife is wild and a sighting is never certain.
You may also see nilgai, hyenas, peacocks and a range of birds.
Timings
There are two safaris a day.
Morning: starts shortly after sunrise.
Evening: starts in the afternoon and ends near sunset.
Timings change with the season, so confirm them when you book. Summer sightings can be better because the animals come out to water, though the heat is intense.
Booking
Online: the forest department's portal lists the safari slots and fees.
At the gate: you can sometimes book on arrival, but slots fill on weekends.
Through your operator: the easiest way, with the jeep and guide arranged for you.
Fees depend on vehicle type and on whether you are a resident or a foreign visitor. Check the current rates on the booking page.
Tips
Book ahead in the high season and at weekends.
Wear neutral clothes, in green, brown or grey.
Carry water and a hat.
Stay quiet, since noise lowers your chances.
Follow your guide. Do not leave the vehicle.

How it fits a Jaipur trip
A morning safari leaves the rest of the day free for the old city. It is a good alternative for guests who have done the forts and want something different. See Nahargarh Fort at sunset for an evening plan, and the Amber Fort guide for the main sights.
