First, 4 nights in Kolkata
The Park, Kolkata
A design-forward hotel on Kolkata's Park Street — contemporary interiors, a rooftop pool, and two of the city's longest-running nightlife venues on site.

About This Journey
Kolkata's heritage core followed by a genuine immersion in the Sundarbans' wilderness, rather than a single safari bolted onto a city trip. Four days in Kolkata cover Howrah Bridge, the Indian Museum, North Kolkata's street food and the Dakshineswar temple, before the route shifts entirely to the delta for two full safaris into different zones of the reserve and a morning of birdwatching in a delta village.
What sets this apart from a standard heritage trip is the weight given to the wilderness half — two separate safaris and a dedicated birdwatching morning, not one outing. The delta's channels, mangroves and birdlife get days, not hours.
A full-day mangrove safari followed by a second safari into a different zone gives real breadth to the wildlife stretch of this trip, beyond a single boat outing.
A dedicated morning for birdwatching and a visit to a delta village adds a quieter, more observational layer to the Sundarbans days.
Howrah Bridge, the Indian Museum, North Kolkata's street food and the riverside Dakshineswar temple give the trip a proper four-day city opening before the wilderness half begins.
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

First, 4 nights in Kolkata
A design-forward hotel on Kolkata's Park Street — contemporary interiors, a rooftop pool, and two of the city's longest-running nightlife venues on site.

Finally, 4 nights in Sundarbans
An established eco-lodge on the edge of the Sundarbans delta at Dayapur — thatched cottages, Bengali home cooking, and naturalist-guided boat safaris.
Chapter Three — Day by Day
7 of your 9days — the full itinerary follows below. Scroll to travel the route.

Day 2 · Kolkata
A morning at the Indian Museum, the country's oldest, for its Egyptian, Mauryan and Buddhist collections, best seen before the midday heat. The afternoon is Howrah Bridge and the Hooghly riverfront, including the Mullick Ghat flower market beneath the bridge's Kolkata end, one of the largest in Asia. A short boat ride on the river at dusk gives the classic view of the bridge lit against the sky.

Day 3 · Kolkata
A morning walk through North Kolkata, the city's old zamindar quarter: faded courtyard mansions, the Tagore family's ancestral home at Jorasanko, and the College Street book market. The evening is a guided street-food tour: puchka, kathi rolls, jhalmuri and Mughlai paratha, worked through a handful of long-running stalls. It is a full, mostly on-foot day, best broken up with a rest in the afternoon.

Day 4 · Kolkata
A morning at Dakshineswar Kali Temple on the Hooghly's east bank, the nine-spired 1855 temple tied to the mystic Ramakrishna, busiest at the morning aarti. The afternoon is New Market, the city's Victorian-era covered bazaar, for spices, sweets and a wider cross-section of Kolkata shopping than Park Street offers. The evening is free, or a second walk along the Maidan, the city's great central park.

Day 5 · Kolkata → Sundarbans
A drive of about two and a half hours from Kolkata to Godkhali, the usual launch point for the delta, through the paddy country south of the city. From there a boat crossing of around an hour reaches the lodge, the roads giving way entirely to water. You arrive by early afternoon, with time to settle in before the first boat outing of the stay, usually a gentler village or birdwatching run rather than the full safari.

Day 6 · Sundarbans
A full day on the water, into the permitted channels of the reserve with a naturalist and, in the core zone, an armed forest-department guard as the park rules require. The boat moves slowly along the tidal creeks, watching the mud banks for pug marks and the water for crocodiles, with spotted deer, kingfishers and eagles seen far more often than the tiger itself. Lunch is taken on board or back at the lodge, depending on the tide.

Day 7 · Sundarbans
A second day on the water, usually routed into a different permitted zone from the first to widen the range of creeks and habitat covered. Tide timing shapes the route more than choice does, since some channels are only passable at high water. Sightings vary day to day — a good crocodile morning, a quiet afternoon, a distant call that might or might not be a tiger. Evenings at the lodge are simple: dinner, and the sound of the forest after dark.

Day 8 · Sundarbans
A gentler day outside the core tiger zone. A slow boat trip along the quieter creeks for birdwatching — kingfishers, sea eagles, and, in the winter months, migratory waders — rather than the tiger-focused safari. A stop at one of the delta's inhabited islands, where a local guide explains how villages here live with the tide, the salt water and the risk of the forest at their back door. It suits a longer stay's third or fourth day, after the main safaris.
Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Kolkata
A direct arrival into Kolkata, by flight into Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose airport or by train. Once settled, the afternoon is the Victoria Memorial, the white marble hall and its sixty-four acres of gardens, and its museum of British-era Kolkata. The evening is Park Street, the city's old dining and entertainment strip, for a first Kolkata dinner.

A last, shorter boat outing if the timing allows, or a quiet morning at the lodge. The return retraces the route: a boat back to Godkhali, then the road to Kolkata, about three and a half hours door to door. It is usually timed to reach the city in the afternoon, in time for an evening flight onward or a night in Kolkata before departure.

Both cover the same Kolkata-then-Sundarbans route over the same number of nights. This version's framing puts equal weight on the delta's broader wilderness — birdwatching and village life alongside the safaris — rather than centring entirely on a tiger sighting.
Yes — alongside the two safaris, a dedicated morning is set aside specifically for birdwatching and a delta village visit, a genuinely different pace from the safari boats.
