First, 3 nights in Darjeeling
Mayfair Darjeeling
A former Sikkimese royal summer residence on the Jawahar Road ridge in Darjeeling — turreted cottage rooms, terraced gardens, and an indoor pool.

Darjeeling → Kalimpong → Kolkata → Sundarbans
About This Journey
The full West Bengal circuit, taken slowly enough to go beyond the headline sights. Ten nights across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kolkata and the Sundarbans cover the same route as the grand journey, but with the extra time used for a closer look at each place — more than a quick photo stop at the tea garden, monasteries, Howrah Bridge, or the mangrove channels.
This is the version of the circuit for travellers who want depth over pace: real time in each setting rather than a landmark checked off and left behind, from Darjeeling's tea country through Kolkata's neighbourhoods to a full day on the Sundarbans' waterways.
With ten nights across four settings, this itinerary favours unhurried time in each place — Darjeeling's tea gardens, Kalimpong's monasteries, Kolkata's streets, the Sundarbans' channels — over rushing between landmarks.
Beyond the headline landmarks, the Kolkata stretch includes an evening through North Kolkata's older lanes and street food stalls — the kind of stop that rewards real time rather than a quick pass.
The route closes with a full-day mangrove safari, real time on the delta rather than a brief excursion tacked onto the city stay.
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

First, 3 nights in Darjeeling
A former Sikkimese royal summer residence on the Jawahar Road ridge in Darjeeling — turreted cottage rooms, terraced gardens, and an indoor pool.

Next, 2 nights in Kalimpong
A colonial-era cottage hotel in its own gardens in Kalimpong — open fires, orchid and cactus plantings, and a short walk to the town's Mall.

Next, 3 nights in Kolkata
A design-forward hotel on Kolkata's Park Street — contemporary interiors, a rooftop pool, and two of the city's longest-running nightlife venues on site.

Finally, 2 nights in Sundarbans
An established eco-lodge on the edge of the Sundarbans delta at Dayapur — thatched cottages, Bengali home cooking, and naturalist-guided boat safaris.
Chapter Three — Day by Day
9 of your 11days — the full itinerary follows below. Scroll to travel the route.

Day 2 · Darjeeling
A pre-dawn drive to Tiger Hill for sunrise over Kanchenjunga, with the convoy of jeeps that makes the same trip every clear morning. The return stops at Ghum monastery and the Batasia Loop war memorial. Back in town for a late breakfast, the rest of the morning is Happy Valley Tea Estate, a short walk from the Chowk Bazaar, for the factory tour and a tasting. The afternoon is free for the Mall.

Day 3 · Darjeeling
A ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the UNESCO-listed toy train, usually the joy-ride up to Ghum and back with a stop at the Batasia Loop. The rest of the day covers the town itself: the Peace Pagoda on Jalapahar Hill, the Himalayan zoo and mountaineering institute below Observatory Hill, and Chowrasta for the evening. A cable-car ride, when the Darjeeling ropeway is running, adds a different angle over the tea gardens on the slopes below.

Day 4 · Darjeeling → Kalimpong
A short drive of about two hours, dropping down toward the Teesta river before climbing again to Kalimpong's ridge. The road passes tea gardens and, in season, the Teesta itself running high and green below the highway. You reach Kalimpong by early afternoon, with time for a first walk around the small Mall and the old market before dinner.

Day 5 · Kalimpong
A morning drive up to Deolo Hill, the highest point above the town, for its landscaped park and, on a clear day, a Kanchenjunga panorama from a different angle than Darjeeling's own viewpoints. The rest of the day covers Durpin Monastery, consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976, and one of the flower nurseries the town is known for, orchids and cacti grown for export since the early twentieth century. The pace is gentle throughout.

Day 6 · Kalimpong → Kolkata
The hills and the delta halves of West Bengal are not linked by a practical road route, so the transfer is by air. A drive of about an hour and a half down to Bagdogra airport near Siliguri, then a flight of roughly ninety minutes to Kolkata. You land in the afternoon, and the sudden change from hill air to the heat and density of the city is immediate. The evening is free, or an early look at Park Street.

Day 7 · Kolkata
A morning at the Indian Museum, the country's oldest, for its Egyptian, Mauryan and Buddhist collections, best seen before the midday heat. The afternoon is Howrah Bridge and the Hooghly riverfront, including the Mullick Ghat flower market beneath the bridge's Kolkata end, one of the largest in Asia. A short boat ride on the river at dusk gives the classic view of the bridge lit against the sky.

Day 8 · Kolkata
A morning walk through North Kolkata, the city's old zamindar quarter: faded courtyard mansions, the Tagore family's ancestral home at Jorasanko, and the College Street book market. The evening is a guided street-food tour: puchka, kathi rolls, jhalmuri and Mughlai paratha, worked through a handful of long-running stalls. It is a full, mostly on-foot day, best broken up with a rest in the afternoon.

Day 9 · Kolkata → Sundarbans
A drive of about two and a half hours from Kolkata to Godkhali, the usual launch point for the delta, through the paddy country south of the city. From there a boat crossing of around an hour reaches the lodge, the roads giving way entirely to water. You arrive by early afternoon, with time to settle in before the first boat outing of the stay, usually a gentler village or birdwatching run rather than the full safari.

Day 10 · Sundarbans
A full day on the water, into the permitted channels of the reserve with a naturalist and, in the core zone, an armed forest-department guard as the park rules require. The boat moves slowly along the tidal creeks, watching the mud banks for pug marks and the water for crocodiles, with spotted deer, kingfishers and eagles seen far more often than the tiger itself. Lunch is taken on board or back at the lodge, depending on the tide.
Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Darjeeling
The gateway is Bagdogra airport, near Siliguri, about three hours by road up into the hills, or the New Jalpaiguri rail junction a similar distance away. The drive climbs steadily through tea gardens and forest, with the views opening out in the last stretch before town. You settle in by the afternoon. The evening is for the Mall and Chowrasta, Darjeeling's pedestrian square, and a first look at the hills as the light drops.

Sundarbans → Kolkata
A last, shorter boat outing if the timing allows, or a quiet morning at the lodge. The return retraces the route: a boat back to Godkhali, then the road to Kolkata, about three and a half hours door to door. It is usually timed to reach the city in the afternoon, in time for an evening flight onward or a night in Kolkata before departure.

Both cover the same four settings — Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kolkata, the Sundarbans — over ten nights. This version is framed around spending that time going deeper into each place rather than covering it at a brisker pace.
It works well for either a first visit with plenty of time, or a return trip that wants to go beyond the highlights covered on a shorter circuit.
