Ajit Bhawan is a 1927 palace residence in Jodhpur, still family-run. Garden cottages, vintage suites and village safaris on our Rajasthan tours.

About This Journey
Marwar has been a centre of textiles, dyeing and metalwork for centuries, and this five-night route through Jodhpur and Jaisalmer is built around that inheritance. It follows the same forts and dunes as the region's other journeys, but the days are shaped to give craft its due time.
Jodhpur's old city, beneath Mehrangarh, is where block-printers, weavers and metalworkers still keep workshops in the same lanes their families have worked for generations. Jaisalmer's merchant havelis, carved from golden sandstone, tell the same story in stone rather than cloth. The trip ends at a desert camp, where the last evening belongs to Rajasthani folk music rather than another workshop.
Day two is spent in Jodhpur's old city and around Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell, a part of town where textile and craft trades have operated for generations. It is the best base in the itinerary for seeing dyeing, block printing and metalwork up close.
The fort city's havelis were built by merchant families who made their fortunes on the old trade routes, and their sandstone facades are carved in extraordinary detail. Day five is given over to walking through them.
You stay at Ajit Bhawan in Jodhpur and Fort Rajwada in Jaisalmer, both properties built in the region's own architectural language rather than an imported hotel style.
A visit to a working textile or craft studio, or time with a local artisan, can be arranged on request in either city. Tell your trip designer what you would like to see made, and we will build it into the day.
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

First, 2 nights in Jodhpur
Ajit Bhawan is a 1927 palace residence in Jodhpur, still family-run. Garden cottages, vintage suites and village safaris on our Rajasthan tours.

Finally, 3 nights in Jaisalmer
Fort Rajwada in Jaisalmer is built in classical Rajasthani style in golden sandstone. Pool, spa and desert safaris on our Rajasthan tours.
Chapter Three — Day by Day
4 of your 6days — the full itinerary follows below. Scroll to travel the route.

Day 2 · Jodhpur
A morning exploring Jodhpur beyond the fort. Toorji Ka Jhalra is a stepwell built in 1740 by a queen consort of Maharaja Abhaya Singh. It drops more than 200 feet below street level in tiered sandstone terraces. Carvings of elephants and lions still trace its walls. From there, the old clock tower market fills the afternoon — spice stalls, textile shops, and lanes that haven't changed their trade in generations.

Day 3 · Jodhpur → Jaisalmer
A five-hour drive further west, deeper into the Thar Desert. The land empties out along the way — scrub, open sky, and small villages built low against the wind. Jaisalmer announces itself from a distance: a fort of golden-yellow sandstone rising straight out of the desert floor. Check in by early evening, with the fort itself saved for tomorrow.

Day 4 · Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort, built in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, is one of the few forts left in the world that's still fully lived in — around four thousand people call it home today, running shops, hotels, and temples inside its walls. Morning is spent inside the fort and at Patwon ki Haveli, a cluster of merchant mansions with carved sandstone facades. In the afternoon, drive out to the Sam Sand Dunes, about 40 kilometres and an hour from the city. Watching the sun drop behind the dunes, the desert turns gold and then a deep orange-red — a genuinely different landscape from anything earlier in the trip.

Day 5 · Jaisalmer
A day spent among Jaisalmer's havelis, the ornately carved mansions built by the city's trading families. Patwon ki Haveli is really five havelis in one complex, built by five brothers who dealt in gold brocade and silver. Nathmal ki Haveli adds two life-sized elephants carved from yellow sandstone at its entrance. Salim Singh ki Haveli's curved upper storey is often compared to a ship's stern. Every facade here was carved by hand, and it shows.
Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Jodhpur
Mehrangarh rises 125 metres above Jodhpur. It sits on a sheer rock face, built in 1459 by Rao Jodha. Its ramparts are some of the thickest in Rajasthan. The museum inside holds royal palanquins, armour, and a gallery of miniature paintings. From the fort walls, Jodhpur's old city spreads out below in shades of blue. The colour started with Brahmin homes. It spread more widely later, partly for its heat-reflecting properties. The afternoon is free to walk those blue lanes at ground level, camera in hand.

Jaisalmer
A private desert camp near the dunes outside Jaisalmer, reached in the late afternoon. Evening brings a Rajasthani folk music and dance performance around a bonfire, dinner served under a sky with almost no light pollution. Desert nights run cool even after hot days, so camps provide heavy blankets as standard. Morning is unhurried before the drive back into Jaisalmer for departure.

Yes. Jodhpur's markets and Jaisalmer's fort lanes are both genuine places to shop for block prints, textiles and metalwork, and your guide can point you toward workshops rather than only tourist stalls.
The old city sections in both Jodhpur and Jaisalmer involve walking on uneven lanes and steps, so comfortable shoes are worth packing.
