One night in Agra
The Oberoi Amarvilas
The Oberoi Amarvilas sits 600m from the Taj Mahal, with unrestricted views from every room and Mughal-inspired architecture.

About This Journey
The same short, well-timed route to the Taj Mahal at sunrise, built around a single hotel: The Oberoi Amarvilas. It's the property closest to the monument, and many of its rooms look directly onto the Taj — which turns an already good itinerary into something more indulgent, without adding a single extra day.
You drive out from Delhi, check in at Amarvilas, and rest ahead of an early start. Day two opens at the Taj Mahal for sunrise, when the marble shifts through shades of pink and gold, followed by Agra Fort the same morning. Because the hotel sits so close to the monument, the whole overnight feels unhurried — there's no long transfer standing between your room and the gates.
Many rooms and suites at The Oberoi Amarvilas look directly onto the Taj — a rare way to see the monument outside its two scheduled visits, from your own window or terrace.
The hotel's proximity to the Taj Mahal means the sunrise visit starts almost at your door, rather than after a drive across the city while the light window is already closing.
Agra Fort follows the Taj visit on day two, a short distance away — both sights covered in one unhurried morning before the drive back to Delhi.
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Delhi → Agra
The drive to Agra runs about 165 kilometres down the Yamuna Expressway and takes three to three and a half hours. It is flat, fast and unremarkable, which is the point — it replaced a full day on the old road. You reach Agra by early afternoon. The rest of the day is Agra Fort, in the long light, with the Taj Mahal visible downriver from its marble balconies — a first sight of it before tomorrow's sunrise.

Agra
The gates open at first light, and the first hour is the coolest, the quietest and the best for photographs, as the marble shifts from grey to pink to white. A private guide handles the tickets and the queue. Back to the hotel for breakfast. The rest of the morning is Agra Fort, Akbar's red sandstone citadel, including the rooms where Aurangzeb held his father prisoner within sight of the Taj. The Taj is closed on Fridays.
