First, 2 nights in Guwahati
Vivanta Guwahati
A Taj-group five-star on the eastern edge of Guwahati — Assamese-inspired rooms, a spa and a rooftop, on the road toward Kaziranga.

About This Journey
Birding and nature first, everything else second — this five-night route is built around the two reserves that put Assam on a naturalist's map. From Guwahati you go straight to Pobitora, a compact sanctuary an hour from the city with one of the highest rhino densities anywhere, before settling into two full days at Kaziranga for elephant-back and jeep game drives across its grasslands and wetlands.
It is a short trip by Assam standards, five nights, but a focused one: no long tea-country detour, no extra city day, just the Brahmaputra floodplain and the birds and megafauna that depend on it. Early starts are part of the deal — the dawn elephant safari and the golden-hour light over Kaziranga's ranges are the reason this itinerary exists.
A day trip to Pobitora, barely an hour from Guwahati, gives you a rhino sighting almost on arrival — the sanctuary is small enough to cover thoroughly in a few hours, a useful warm-up before Kaziranga's much larger ranges.
Rather than a single overnight, this route gives Kaziranga a dawn elephant safari followed by an afternoon jeep drive on one day, then a full day across two of the park's ranges on the next — real time to work the light and the terrain.
Depending on tier, nights run from the Radisson Blu on the Brahmaputra in Guwahati to the Diphlu River Lodge at Kaziranga, or Vivanta Guwahati and IORA – The Retreat closer to the park gates — each placing you near water and grassland rather than in a generic town hotel.
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

First, 2 nights in Guwahati
A Taj-group five-star on the eastern edge of Guwahati — Assamese-inspired rooms, a spa and a rooftop, on the road toward Kaziranga.

Finally, 3 nights in Kaziranga
A tea-garden resort at Kohora by Kaziranga's Central Range gate — an outdoor pool, a spa, resident naturalists, and the shortest drive to the morning safari.
Chapter Three — Day by Day
4 of your 6days — the full itinerary follows below. Scroll to travel the route.

Day 2 · Guwahati
An early start east from Guwahati, about ninety minutes, to the Pobitora sanctuary. It is small, under forty square kilometres, and it has the densest one-horned rhino population in the world. A jeep safari of an hour or two on the grassland tracks almost always finds several rhinos in the open, along with wild buffalo and a great many water birds. Back in Guwahati by early afternoon, with time for the river or the museum. It is a strong rhino day for anyone not going on to Kaziranga.

Day 3 · Guwahati → Kaziranga
The drive east follows the south bank of the Brahmaputra for about two hundred kilometres and five hours, through paddy fields, tea gardens and small towns, with the hills of Meghalaya away to the south. There are stops for tea and for lunch on the way. You reach the lodges at Kohora, just outside the park's Central Range gate, in the afternoon, with time to settle in and meet the naturalist before dark.

Day 4 · Kaziranga
The elephant safari goes out at first light from Kohora or Bagori, for about an hour, walking through grass that is often higher than a jeep. This is where the rhinos feed, so it is the closest you will get to one. The mist lifts during the ride. Back for breakfast, then a slow middle of the day. The afternoon is a jeep safari of about three hours through the Central Range, for rhino, wild elephant, swamp deer and buffalo, and the chance of a tiger in the grass.

Day 5 · Kaziranga
A deeper day in the park, for travellers with the time. A morning jeep safari in the Western Range at Bagori, which has open country and high rhino numbers. The middle of the day at the orchid park, which grows hundreds of the region's orchid species and puts on Assamese folk dance. An afternoon safari in the Eastern Range at Agaratoli, the quietest range, with more water, more birds and a good chance of otters and fishing eagles. Two ranges in a day shows how different parts of the same park can be.
Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Guwahati
You land at Guwahati, the hub for the whole northeast. The city sits where the Brahmaputra narrows between hills, and the river is the thing to see first. In the late afternoon a cruise boat runs out onto the water for the sunset, past Umananda island and under the temple hill, usually with tea or a meal and a short set of Assamese music. It is an easy way to arrive and get the shape of the place.

Guwahati
A last morning in the city before the flight out. If there is time, a final hour on the river, a visit to the Assam State Museum, or the silk shops for Assam's own muga and eri weaves. Guwahati's airport connects to Delhi, Kolkata and the rest of the northeast, so onward plans are straightforward.

Both. Kaziranga and Pobitora are wetland and grassland ecosystems that support large water birds and raptors alongside the rhinos and elephants, so the same drives that find megafauna also turn up strong birding — a naturalist guide for either park can be arranged on request.
The elephant safari departs before sunrise to reach the grasslands while the light and the animals' activity are both at their best, so expect an early start on that day in particular.
