Overview

Ravangla At A Glance

Ravangla, also written Rabong, is a small ridge town in South Sikkim. It is the calm stop on the route between Gangtok and Pelling. A luxury Ravangla tour works best when you slow down and let the days stay short. Start at Buddha Park, also called Tathagata Tsal. It is a landscaped garden built around a large seated Buddha. Paths wind through lawns and trees. Ralang Monastery is nearby, and it belongs to a long Tibetan Buddhist tradition in the region. The Temi tea garden sits on a hillside close by. Your guide can walk you through the estate and end with a tasting. Above the town, the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary is the usual starting point for forest walks. The forest is home to rhododendrons and a good range of birds. Views across the hills depend on cloud and season. Do not plan around them. Plan around the quiet. Evenings are cool and still. Most travellers stay one or two nights. That is enough for the park, the tea and a monastery visit. Your private driver can then carry on toward Pelling or Namchi, at whatever pace suits you.

Best Time
March to May and October to November. These months are usually the most comfortable for walks and monastery visits.
