About This Journey

Pune & Kolhapur Heritage — Premium

This is a Pune-based trip with two big days out. It covers the Peshwa-era city, a forest Jyotirlinga at Bhimashankar and a long day to Kolhapur's palace and chappal lanes.

It suits travellers who want Maharashtra beyond the usual circuit.

  1. 01

    Peshwa Pune

Shaniwar Wada was the seat of the Peshwas, and the Aga Khan Palace is now a memorial and museum.

  2. 02

    Bhimashankar

A forest shrine in the Sahyadri hills, about three to four hours each way. We choose a quiet weekday.

  3. 03

    A long day to Kolhapur

Kolhapur is about four and a half hours each way. It is a full day, with the New Palace, the Mahalakshmi temple and the chappal lanes.

  4. 04

    A Kolhapuri thali

Lunch in Kolhapur is the famously fiery local thali. Milder options are easy to arrange.

A full day in the Sahyadri hills. The drive to Bhimashankar takes about three to four hours each way. The temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, sits in forest near the source of the Bhima river.
