Port Blair is the gateway to the Andamans, and most visitors have a few hours here before or after the islands. This plan covers the town's best half-day, in an order that works with the road.

It is built for people who land in the morning or leave in the evening, and it leaves out the island trips.

This museum covers the islands' marine life, corals and shells, with displays on the sea and the tribes. It is a good wet-weather stop and suits families. Check the opening days and times before you go.

Corbyn's Cove

A crescent of sand about 8 km from the town, lined with palms. It is a pleasant stop for a walk and a drink, and swimming is possible in calm conditions. Treat it as a short stop, not a destination. For real beaches, go on to Havelock.

Mount Harriet

Mount Harriet is a national park across the bay, reached by a short ferry and a road through forest. The viewpoint gives a wide view over the bay and the islands. It takes the longest of the four, so do it only if you have a full half-day.

Cellular Jail

The jail is the main historical site in Port Blair. Visit in the daytime for the museum and the cells, or in the evening for the light and sound show. Check the show's timings and closing days, as they change.

A simple half-day order

  1. Cellular Jail in the morning.

  2. Samudrika Museum.

  3. Corbyn's Cove for a late lunch.

  4. The light and sound show if you are staying the night.

For a longer trip, see the Port Blair guide and the 4-night itinerary.
