First, one night in Shillong
Vivanta Meghalaya, Shillong
A Taj-group five-star in the centre of Shillong at Police Bazar — Khasi-inspired rooms, a spa, and an easy base for Cherrapunji and Dawki.

About This Journey
If Meghalaya is new to you, this is the short version built to introduce it properly. Three nights, one clean loop from Shillong to Cherrapunji and back, with the state's best-known landmarks along the way and none of the longer detours a repeat visitor might add.
You land in Guwahati, drive up to Shillong past Umiam Lake, then continue to Cherrapunji the next day through the Mawkdok Canyon for a day of waterfalls and caves. It is a gentle, well-paced first look at the Khasi Hills, designed to leave you wanting to come back for more.
The route covers Meghalaya's headline sights — Umiam Lake, the Mawkdok Canyon, Cherrapunji's waterfalls and caves — without the longer add-ons of the region's deeper itineraries. It is the right length for a first visit.
Your driver-guide travels with you for all three nights, which matters on the winding hill roads between Shillong and Cherrapunji, and helps make sense of what you are seeing.
One night at Ri Kynjai – Serenity by the Lake on the edge of Umiam Lake, then two at Polo Orchid Resort in Cherrapunji (or Vivanta Meghalaya and Jiva Resort at the premium tier).
Chapter Two — Where You'll Stay
Handpicked along your own route — not a hotel chain repeated city to city.

First, one night in Shillong
A Taj-group five-star in the centre of Shillong at Police Bazar — Khasi-inspired rooms, a spa, and an easy base for Cherrapunji and Dawki.

Finally, 2 nights in Cherrapunji
A full-service resort above old Cherrapunji with large valley-view suites, a grill and a golf lawn — close to Nohkalikai Falls and the root-bridge trailhead.
Chapter Three — Day by Day
2 of your 4days — the full itinerary follows below. Scroll to travel the route.

Day 2 · Shillong → Cherrapunji
The road south to Sohra runs across a high, open plateau that gets barer and windier as you go. The Mawkdok Dympep viewpoint, about halfway, looks down a deep V-shaped gorge and has a zipline for anyone who wants it. You reach Cherrapunji by early afternoon. Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall, is the first stop: a short walk to a viewpoint over a three-hundred-and-forty-metre drop into a blue-green pool. Check in on the canyon rim for the evening.

Day 3 · Cherrapunji
Cherrapunji is one of the wettest places on earth, and the landscape is all water and limestone. The Seven Sisters Falls pour off the cliffs near Mawsmai, best after rain. Mawsmai Cave is a short lit walk through the rock, past flowstone and narrow squeezes, with the longer Arwah cave nearby for anyone who wants more. The day can also take in the Nohsngithiang viewpoint, the Eco Park on the plateau edge, and Thangkharang Park, where on a clear day you can see into Bangladesh.
Chapter Four — The Full Itinerary
Every day, start to finish — including the transfers the day-by-day chapter above skipped.

Shillong
The drive up from Guwahati airport takes about three hours, climbing out of the Assam plains into pine hills. The road runs along Umiam Lake, and there is a viewpoint to stop at for the first real look at Meghalaya. You reach Shillong in the afternoon. The rest of the day is easy: Ward's Lake, the cafes around Police Bazar, or just a rest after the flight. The evenings here are cool all year.

Shillong
A last morning in the hills before the drive down to Guwahati airport, about three hours. If the flight is later, there is time for a final stop at Umiam Lake, a coffee in Laitumkhrah, or the shops of Police Bazar for Khasi weave and orange-blossom honey. The road loses height quickly, and the air warms as the plains come back into view.
